Yes, he tore his ACL in 1999. In fact, I went to the hospital in Beijing with Phil Chen and Jiang Bang Jun to visit him the day after his surgery.

I agree that he has had a great comeback. Especially after being in Cirque for a few years where his skill development was much more on performance and much less on wushu for competition.

He is nothing if not persistent though. And he's more like 34 years old. Actually 35 now since it is December and his birthday is in April. He was born in April, 1976, I believe.

This is kinda unrelated, but that's the first proper picture of Kali I've seen and he's pretty handsome.

Btw, I remember reading in one of your earlier posts that many Shanxi members still know who HJD is, and that he was damn good but didn't place well in competitions. I heard he got injured a few years back (torn ACL?) and his career looked like it was in trouble. That guy has made the mother of all comebacks though, he won the Nangun world title!

Aside from Jiang Bang Jun's personal story, I find He Jing De one of the greatest sources of inspiration for me. He must be like almost 40 and yet he can still compete at such a high level.
